A peanut factory rich in history officially became the hub of numerous high-end downtown lofts and apartments Tuesday during a ribbon cutting and tour.

The original Peanut Factory, located at 939 S. Frio St., was built in 1912 and has been converted by MissionDG into 25 loft-style apartment units that will make up the four silos and the connecting tower.

Mayor Ivy Taylor attended the ribbon cutting, along with City Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales, Comissioner Paul Elizondo and City Manager Sheryl Sculley.

“The opening of the Peanut Factory Lofts is very significant for downtown’s continued growth and development,” Taylor said in a news release. “Its proximity to UTSA’s downtown campus makes it a very attractive and unique residential option for students, families and young professionals alike.”
